Programs : Summer Enrichment Camps
Each summer, the Institute for the Future offers summer enrichment activities open to all girls in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. Girls are registered on a first come, first-served basis, with a maximum of 20 girls per session. For more information about summer camps, please contact Denita Powell Malvern at or 214.915.0890.

2011 Summer Enrichment Camps
Adventures in Science Summer Camp
Session One: June 6 - 10 FULL
Session Two: June 13 - 17
9:00a.m. - 1:30p.m.
The Adventures in Science summer enrichment camp is geared towards young girls throughout the Dallas Metroplex ages 11-16. The Museum's goal is to provide a week long science enrichment [science, technology, engineering, math, etc.] program for girls that will expose them to various science related career fields and exciting experiments and science projects.

Summer Art Enrichment Program FULL
July 11 - 15
9:00a.m. - 1:30p.m.
The 2011 Art Enrichment camp will feature the works of famed artist Loïs Mailou Jones and is available to girls ages 11-16. The week-long camp will include the following activities:
Alter Ego Photographs (Self-portraits):
Students will create two portraits of themselves one showing them as they are and the other in which they transform into someone else (based on dealing with teen issues and their effects: teen pregnancy, drugs, alcohol, cutting, etc. )
Community Painting:
Students will take pictures of their community (the good, bad, and the beautiful). Create a painting, mixed media, collage from their point of view -photographs will also be used as a reference.
Book of Secrets:
Students will create a one-of-a-kind book that contains hidden compartments.
Gallery Talk: Loïs Mailou Jones
Walk through the gallery and discuss what influenced and inspired Jones' work.

Girls Can Do Anything: Dream Your Career Workshop FULL
July 18 - 22
9:00a.m. - 1:30p.m.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to work in a museum? Do you know how many years of training it takes to become a doctor? What does a scientist REALLY do? This summer camp, geared towards girls ages 12-16, will help answer these and other questions. Each day's activities will focus on a different career interest, allowing campers to learn about skills and knowledge needed to pursue these careers.

Environmental Leadership Program
August 15 - 19
9:00a.m. - 1:30p.m.
The Women's Museum has created an Environmental Leadership Summer Program to help girls become ambassadors for the environment and the world around them. The week-long camp will have three components: a study of the environment (land, water & air) and its current condition, leadership and project-based learning. Campers will also observe the environment within Fair Park.
