Daughters of the Earth: Icons of Native American Women
Date: May 9 – July 13, 2008
Daughters of the Earth explores the five iconic products of Native American women: beadwork, pottery, basketry, rugs, and clothing. This exhibit looks at how the creation of these everyday objects has shaped the traditional image of the American Indian. From shoes to water containers, these artifacts will show visitors the artistry and skill of Native American craftswomen, including renowned potter Maria Martinez. The majority of the items featured in the exhibit will be on loan from The Museum of the Red River, located in Idabel, Oklahoma, which houses one of the most comprehensive and important collections of Native American artifacts in the nation.
